Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine originating in China. Acupuncture was brought to the west in the twentieth century and since then; its popularity in the west has grown rapidly. It is now widely used and accepted all over the world and there is currently a wealth of research developing in the area. I have been practicing acupuncture for over 15 years having qualified in 1997 from the College of Traditional Acupuncture in Leamington Spa. I have always had an interest in healthcare and human well being. I initially trained and practiced Medicine before training as an acupuncturist. This has given me working knowledge of both conventional medicine and complementary therapies. I believe that conventional medicine and therapies such as acupuncture should be used side by side. I have a particular interest in treating obstetric and gynaecological problems. I offer specific knowledge and experience in fertility, pregnancy and birth and have successfully assisted many couples to conceive naturally, along side couples undergoing fertility treatments such as IUI, IVF and ICSI. My practice therefore includes not only treating women with menstrual problems and assisting with pregnancy ailments but also in treating couples with fertility issues. This includes preparing and treating women whether through the IVF cycles or natural conception and thereafter promoting successful pregnancy. I find that using a combination of acupuncture and counselling can empower couples to boost their pre-conceptual health and maximise their chances of conception. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council and as such, abide by their codes of Safe Practice and Professional Conduct. I hold a full professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Counselling and Cognitive-Behaviour therapy When people experience difficulties in their lives and undergo various life stresses, the assistance of a trained therapist can help them work through such periods. For some people, it helps to talk to someone other than their family who can help them to explore and understand their feelings. Counselling can help you with feelings associated with conception, pregnancy and birth, with IVF and other fertility treatments. It can help to put into perspective unresolved issues from ones own childhood, feelings related to becoming a parent and meeting demands that go with it, fears associated with childbirth, post natal depression, and bereavement. It helps in addressing and resolving specific problems by developing personal insights and understanding, working through difficult feelings and inner conflict. Counselling aims to help you understand more about yourself and your relationships so you can change your behaviour and find a way to move forward in a more satisfying and constructive way. It helps you to make sense of your life and empowers you to resolve your problems and make decisions. CBT(Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) is recognised as the treatment of choice by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) for effective treatment for a range of psychological disorders. CBT will help you explore how your thoughts and behaviours relate to the way you are feeling and how this may contribute to your current problem. CBT will guide you in your own self development as it will help develop the necessary skills to become your own therapist once therapy has ended. I have over 16 years of professional experience as a counsellor in the NHS. Currently, I also offer evidence base therapy (CBT and EMDR) to individuals suffering with depression, general anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, low confidence, low self esteem and lack of assertiveness. I am an accredited member of with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, a member of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), and also a member of the EMDR Association UK and Ireland. My current fee is £45 for initial assessment and treatment and thereafter £40 per treatment. Please feel free to ask questions by email or phone
