I have worked as an acupuncturist since 1986 enjoying a wide variety of practice from the cradle to the grave! I find acupuncture beneficial for many conditions but mostly because it addresses both your and your baby's health and wellbeing and is completely safe. It rebalances and supports the body's natural health rhythms and so avoids side effects, offering a drug-free alternative to healing, as well as supporting the body when drugs are necessary. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese system of healing that uses hair-fine needles inserted at various points on the body to re-balance energy. Five Element Acupuncture aids healing by working with and re-balancing the elements from which you are made. It addresses health in every way - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I find acupuncture beneficial for most health conditions but primarily because it treats you as a whole person, the person behind your symptoms, and holds wellbeing in every area of life as vital to health. As well as promoting health and wellbeing acupuncture is beneficial when you're considering conception, in aiding good health in specific conditions like PCOS and endometriosis, and enabling you to be at your best for conception and throughout your pregnancy. It is extremely effective in treating morning sickness and other pregnancy-related symptoms, in turning breech babies and in moving slow labour. I would highly recommend it post-partum for enabling your body to recover, to aid with successful breastfeeding, and to encourage your own good health. As an acupuncturist I diagnose energetic imbalances and use hair-fine needles (and sometimes moxibustion, the burning of a herb on the acupuncture points) to free your energy and allow it to be fully accessible once again. The needles are inserted at various points along the channels, where the energy is most easily accessed, and is calmed or energised, depending on what is needed in each particular case. Different needle techniques are used depending on what the energy requires, but it can vary from a quick insertion and removal to leaving the needles in for up to twenty minutes. Each treatment depends on a number of variables :
* the severity of the condition * the length of time that the condition has lasted * the treatment that has previously been received for it * each individual response to acupuncture treatment * the extent to which lifestyle contributes to it * the nature of the energetic imbalance
Many people describe the sensation of receiving acupuncture treatment as a kind of pulling or dragging sensation as the needle reaches the energy, which lasts for a moment and then is gone. It is not a painless procedure but the sensation is generally a momentary one.
To ensure that acupuncture is for you, I recommend booking a FREE introductory chat.
The initial diagnosis session lasts 2 hours (including a comprehensive health history and your first treatment) and costs £90.
Treatment sessions last up to 1 hour and are spaced according to need and the variables listed above and cost £45.
Treatment programmes are individually tailored to you because we all have different requirements.
I do not work with pain relief in isolation (especially back and joint pain) because of potentially masking the pain of misaligned bones. I recommend initial consultation with an osteopath, chiropractor or structural body worker.
I trained at the College of Traditional Acupuncture, Leamington Spa (1983-86), and have been working as a fully qualified acupuncturist in and around the area since that time. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council and am bound, and abide, by the Council's Codes of Ethics, Practice and Professional Conduct.
I am an accredited B.A.C.P. registered counsellor and a supervisor of other acupuncturists and counsellors. This work informs and enhances my understanding of people and my work as an acupuncturist.
I USE ONLY DISPOSABLE NEEDLES
