Acupuncture

Acupuncture is extremely beneficial in promoting health and wellbeing for those considering conception, in aiding good health in specific conditions like PCOS, in accompanying you through IVF and other fertility treatments.  It is extremely effective in treating morning sickness and other pregnancy-related symptoms; in turning breech babies and in aiding slow labour.  i would highly recommend it post-partum for enabling your body to recover, to aid with successful breastfeeding, and to encourage your own good health.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese system of healing that uses hair-fine needles inserted at various points on the body to re-balance energy.

There is a system of channels or meridians that relate to all the organs and systems. Energy is circulated via these channels. It is probable that when we experience illness or a lack of natural flow it is because our ability to access this energy has become impoverished. Acupuncture helps to unblock, re-balance and restore energy, health and wellbeing.

As an acupuncturist I diagnose the energetic imbalance and use the hair-fine needles (and sometimes moxibustion, the burning of a herb on the acupuncture points) to free it and allow it to circulate freely and be fully accessible once again. The needles are inserted at various points along the channels, where the energy is most easily accessed, and is calmed or energised, depending on what is needed in each particular case. Different needle techniques are used depending on what the energy requires, but it can vary from a quick insertion and removal to leaving the needles in for up to twenty minutes. Each treatment depends on a number of variables :

    * the severity of the condition
    * the length of time that the condition has lasted
    * the treatment that has previously been received for it
    * each individual response to acupuncture treatment
    * the extent to which lifestyle contributes to it
    * the nature of the energetic imbalance

Many people describe the sensation of receiving acupuncture treatment as a kind of pulling or dragging sensation as the needle reaches the energy, which lasts for a moment and then is gone. It is not a painless procedure but the sensation is generally a momentary one.

To ensure that acupuncture is for you, I recommend booking a FREE introductory chat.

The initial diagnosis session lasts for 2 hours (including a full history of health, well being and other associated factors) and costs £85.

Treatment sessions last up to 1 hour and are spaced according to need and the variables listed above and cost £42.50.

Treatment programmes are individually tailored because everyone has different requirements.

Since my practice is busy and there are people waiting to take cancellation spaces, I have found it necessary to ask for a minimum of 48 hours' notice of cancellation. This gives me sufficient time to contact those waiting. Appointments cancelled without 48 hours' notice will, therefore, engender a cancellation charge of £21.25, with a full fee charged for completely missed appointments. I am sympathetic to extenuating circumstances.

To enhance diagnosis, please attend the initial diagnostic session without perfume or make-up. It is most helpful not to have a bath within 1 hour of the session because diagnosis is based, not only on the information that you give to me, but also on signs that I detect from the colours in your skin, the sounds in your voice, the natural odours of your body, tongue diagnosis, and your general demeanour, including taking the pulses. To enhance the effect of your treatment it is advisable to eat only lightly within two hours of a treatment and to ABSTAIN completely from alcohol and/or recreational drugs for at least 24 hours either side of each treatment.

PLEASE BRING DETAILS OF CURRENT OR RECENT MEDICATION

PLEASE NOTE: I only work with giving up smoking or weight loss if there is a total commitment to making the necessary lifestyle changes.

I do not work with pain relief in isolation (especially back and joint pain) because of potentially masking the pain of misaligned bones. I recommend initial consultation with an osteopath or chiropractor.

I trained at the College of Traditional Acupuncture, Leamington Spa (1983-86), and have been working as a fully qualified acupuncturist in and around the area since that time.

I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council and am bound, and abide, by the Council's Codes of Ethics, Practice and Professional Conduct.

I am also an accredited B.A.C.P. registered counsellor and a groupworker. This work informs and enhances my understanding of people and my work as an acupuncturist.

I USE ONLY DISPOSABLE NEEDLES
